Travelling Against FCDO Travel Advice

23 Jun 2020

image name

The FCDO usually advise against travel to countries experiencing civil unrest, war and epidemics, but recently COVID-19 has had an unprecedented effect on travel advice across the globe.

It’s important to keep up to date with what’s happening at your holiday destination via the FCDO website https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice. This link will take you to the list of countries, select the country you’re visiting to learn more.

Where do Freedom stand?

As an insurance intermediary, we cannot provide advice or guidance on travel, we can only use the FCDO travel advice as our guide as to whether or not cover is valid.

As ever, our policies become invalid for anyone traveling to a country where FCDO advice against travel exists. A pandemic is no exception.

As the travel restrictions begin to lift, our policies will be able to cover more and more destinations but the onus is on you, the traveller, to ensure you are not travelling against FCDO advice. It’s important to recognise that both the FCDO in the UK and the corresponding government of your destination must both be allowing travel for any travel insurance policy of our to be valid. As an example, if Spain opens up travel to every European country, but the FCDO travel advice in the UK still restricts all travel, our cover will be invalid.

We will be monitoring the situation closely and if you have any questions or concerns please call and ask, while we cannot advise we may be able to help.
