Travel insurance for people with diabetes

Over 4 million people representing 6% of the UK population are diabetic, but this does not mean that your condition is automatically covered on your travel insurance policy.

It is important to inform us of your diagnosis, treatment and any related complications such as blood pressure, heart conditions or strokes so that we can provide a fully comprehensive insurance policy. If you were to suffer a diabetic attack or a related complication, such as a disruption to your kidney function, your policy will cover for emergency medical treatment, cancellation or if your holiday is cut short.

If you're travelling with friends or family you can also elect to add them onto the same specialist travel insurance policy so that if any trip complications were to arise relating to either person, everyone on the policy would be covered to claim for this. This would include claims for cancellation of the trip or emergency medical treatment abroad whether it's related to diabetes or another unrelated medical condition.

Diabetes travel and holiday insurance at a fair price

We don’t feel it’s fair to charge high premiums to people with a diabetes diagnosis, when it can be very well controlled by diet, medication and insulin.  It’s important that you declare your condition whether you are applying online or over the telephone, so that we have it on record in the event of a claim.

Our team provide the best service to our customers and will endeavour to find the best policy for you. Our prices are based on a person’s current state of health at the time of taking out a policy, so if you live with diabetes or have a history of repeated hospital admissions, we will tailor a policy that specifically meets your individual needs, making sure you have the best level of cover for your trip.

Applying for travel and holiday insurance with diabetes

You can apply here online or over the telephone; it’s quick, simple and totally confidential. To provide you with the best quote for your needs, you’ll need to let us know where you are travelling to, and for how long. Make sure to declare your diabetes and any other pre-existing medical conditions that apply to you and anyone else on the policy.

You will be guided through a medical screening questionnaire, where a series of relevant questions will be asked to assess your health. These questions should be answered accurately and to the best of your knowledge.  You will then be presented with available policy options, which include cover for declared medical conditions as well as cover for cancellation, baggage, personal accident and lots more.

If you need a helping hand at any time, please call us and we'll guide you through your application.
