Cover limits are per person, per trip.
At Freedom Insurance we understand that no two cancers are the same and that's why we look at each case on its individual merits in order to provide you with the best cover available. We know treatment can vary depending on the severity and type of cancer, we aim to provide cover regardless of whether you've been treated by radiotherapy, chemotherapy or had the tumour surgically removed. If you're currently undergoing treatment for cancer or are awaiting surgery, it can be more difficult to obtain full cover, but we will still endeavour to find you a policy which meets your needs.
The main advantage of obtaining cancer travel insurance is knowing that in the event it causes a problem either prior to or during your trip, you will be covered for anything related directly or indirectly to the condition. If for example you have a stoma in place due to an ileostomy/colostomy for bowel cancer and this was to cause a problem while you are away 'standard' travel insurance wouldn't necessarily cover you for this. If, however you have taken out a specialist insurance which specifically includes complications due to the cancer then cover would apply.
If you're travelling with friends or family you can also elect to add them onto the same specialist travel insurance policy so that if any trip complications were to arise relating to either person, everyone on the policy would be covered to claim for this. This would include claims for cancellation of the trip or emergency medical treatment abroad whether it's related to the cancer or another unrelated medical condition.
Freedom's been providing travel insurance to people with pre-existing medical conditions for over 17 years!
If you have been declined travel insurance based on having a cancerous condition, Freedom can help. We have vast experience of insuring people with cancer and consider all types from prostate, bowel, breast, skin and many more, including rarer forms that other insurers may not take the time to understand. Freedom’s policies are fully comprehensive giving cancer patients' complete security when travelling. Should cancer be the reason you have to cancel your trip or cause for emergency medical assistance on holiday, then you can rest assured, Freedom’s cancer travel insurance will protect you every step of the way.
Our prices are based on a person’s current state of health at the time of taking out a policy, so if you are currently being treated for bowel cancer or have been given the all clear, we will tailor a policy that specifically meets your individual needs, making sure you have the right level of cover for your trip.

Make sure to declare your cancer and any other pre-existing medical conditions that apply to you and anyone else on the policy. You will be guided through a medical screening questionnaire, where a series of relevant questions will be asked to assess your health.
These questions should be answered accurately and to the best of your knowledge. You will then be presented with available policy options, which include cover for declared medical conditions as well as cover for cancellation, baggage, personal accident and lots more.

Speak to your GP or consultant regarding your travel plans
Discuss your travel destination with your GP, they maybe be able to advise on appropriate destinations, vaccinations and any recommended precautions you should take. If you are undergoing treatment, they can often arrange this around your travel plans!
Cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy can weaken your immune system - discuss risk of infection and ensure you are vaccinated for your travel. Take all your medication and extras in case of delays, loss or theft
Put yourself first
Be careful of skin damage as cancer treatments can make your skin sensitive. Avoid sun exposure - and reflections of water and snow. Stay hydrated, carry antibacterial hand gel, keep your hands clean and make good food choices - all of these will help avoid germs and infections
"Excellent company and great service. I have used Freedom for many years. Peace of mind that we are covered for medical conditions and can enjoy our holiday. Very easy to use, online quotes and staff on the phones are very helpful, thanks."
We can look into covering you if you have been given a terminal prognosis as long as you are fit to travel, but if the associated condition falls outside of our parameters we will look at an alternative option for you!
You would need to do a medical screening, recent chemotherapy can affect your immune system making you more prone to infections but we may be able to provide cover. It would be best to call us for a quotation in this event.
